New Solutions to Industry Old Problems
By Kevin Sheehan, National Sales Manager, TREK Cleaning Machines
For the most part, cleaning equipment has not changed a great deal over the last several years. Walk-behind scrubbers, for example, have not changed much in the past 30 years. Typically, they have two disc brushes, one limited capacity solution tank, one limited capacity recovery tank, a squeegee and vacuum system, two front tires and two small, rear caster wheels.
In fact, the only truly substantial changes in walk-behind scrubbers in the past 30 years have been the introduction of polyethylene solution tanks, cylindrical scrub systems that sweep and scrub, and automatic control features that have evolved into industry standards.
The standard industry walk-behind scrubber described above is not able to meet many of the common challenges faced in the industry. Typical applications that call for a walk-behind scrubber tend to be large jobs with high congestion levels. A compact, maneuverable machine is needed for these types of jobs. The standard walk-behind scrubber is simply not able to perform well in these situations.
What are these obstacles? In the case of the walk-behind scrubber, if the machine is compact, it will likely have limited solution capacities. This disadvantage results in the operator spending a significant amount of his time traveling to and from the draining and refilling station instead of cleaning the floor. A task that needs to be done quickly and efficiently instead is time consuming and work-intensive.
Compounding the problem is that many walk-behind scrubber applications do not have a full time, dedicated scrubber operator. Companies usually assign different employees to clean at the end of a shift or when an “opportunity cleaning” occurs. This means the entire cleaning job cannot be done efficiently, quickly, and effectively. A more labor intensive task naturally reduces the ability of the scrubber operator to perform it adequately.
Additionally, today’s standard walk-behind scrubber is equipped with small, hard rear caster wheels. These wheels are not ideal for most floor cleaning applications because they can damage the floors, cause downtime on machine components, and fatigue the operator. The floor expansion joints and rough patches are constantly abused, and damage to the floor surface often occurs.
TREK Cleaning Machines addresses these challenges
The Trek Torsion TB6 SUR scrubber, the industry’s ONLY stand up rider, is the key to eliminating all of the problems typically faced by the standard walk-behind scrubber. The compact design and unique features of the Trek Torsion TB6 SUR scrubber increase the quality and efficiency and ease of floor cleaning, even in cases where a walk-behind scrubber would normally have been judged the only option.
First, the unique articulated design of the Trek Torsion TB6 SUR has two sections that are connected by a pivoting joint. This unique design allows the Torsion SUR scrubber to increase maneuverability and improve handling and turning freedom of 150 degrees. This allows the Torsion SUR to work in spaces where walk-behind scrubbers may not have been able to work or where the walk-behind scrubber may not have been as efficient.
Secondly, Trek Torsion TB6 SUR is more efficient than the typical walk-behind scrubber because it has “super sized” solution and recovery tanks that rival some of the largest rider scrubber capacities. The 60/60 gallon tanks translate into increased productivity up to 100% versus the industry standard 20 – 30 gallon tanks. The ability to hold twice the amount of water means double the productivity and half the cleaning time and labor costs.
As a stand up rider, the Torsion SUR enables the operator to clean with the speed of a rider while reducing the fatigue of a walk-behind scrubber. The cleaning job is done in a fraction of the time and the operator can be more productive in all of his or her cleaning tasks further reducing labor costs and time.
Finally and exclusive to the Trek Torsion TB6 SUR is the four-tire soft ride machine stance. This feature of the machine’s design provides a great deal of operator safety and comfort. The soft ride tires also eliminate the concrete floor damage that can occur with hard caster wheels. The result is a safe, productive and efficient operator and a cleaning task well done.
Why the Trek Torsion TB6 SUR is the right choice for tough cleaning applications:
The Torsion SUR delivers industrial grade performance offering both disc and cylindrical methods with scrub widths from 32” to 40” to fit a wide variety of commercial and industrial applications. The articulated steering design allows it to maneuver in tight congested areas, but has the solution capacities (super sized) tanks to be productive and more efficient in larger and more open facilities. The articulated steering design also allows the squeegee tracking system to pick up water 100% in any turns, providing safe, dry floors for operator and other mobile equipment. The unique four wheel industrial tire stance provides stability and traction in the most challenging of floor conditions.
The Trek Torsion TB6 SUR is a unique solution to many cleaning challenges and provides an alternative “value solution” to traditional rider scrubbers. The Torsion SUR equals rider scrubber specifications and productivity but at 40% initial cost savings!
Sweeping the Industry Clean:
The Radial Sweeper, the newest innovation in high capacity cleaning, is just as revolutionary as the Torsion. In a matter of minutes, the Radial Sweeper mounts directly to any forklift truck without the need for additional attachments or power source requirements. The Radial Sweeper can be used indoors or outdoors and maneuvers equally well in tight or wide-open areas. The Radial Sweeper, which can pick up anything in its path from 2x4s to fine dirt, rocks, and gravel, comes equipped with a disposable main broom that can be changed in two minutes. Additionally, the Radial has a quick-change filter panel with a shaker for dust control and an extra-large hopper that holds up to 900 pounds of debris. As with the Torsion, all of these features work together to improve efficiency and quality.
The Radial is more efficient, more reliable, and more economical than standard sweepers available today. At a cost of about 70% less than a traditional rider sweeper, the TREK Radial compares feature-to-feature with the finest riding sweepers on the market. The Radial features a one-piece, disposable main broom that can be conveniently changed in less than 2 minutes, a quick change filter panel with shaker for dust control, rugged steel construction for long-lasting durability, an extra-large hopper which holds almost 900 lbs. of debris, dual side brooms that maximize productivity by increasing sweep path to 60”, and sturdy, 18” pneumatic tires.
The mission of TREK Cleaning Machines is to continue to bring innovative floor cleaning equipment and technology to the market at cost-effective price points that deliver true value to the customer. With combined experience, technology, and industry knowledge, the TREK team has been and will continue to develop cutting-edge products at affordable prices in the effort to increase productivity and efficiency.
