Compare Total Cost of Ownership of Various Truck Technologies
To help prospective customers better see the appreciable cost advantages of owning an AC electric truck over a vehicle based on an IC engine (LPG / Diesel) or DC electric technology, the Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corporation is now making available a free, simple-to-use tool for calculating Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) associated with various kinds of forklift over a five year period. Anyone can explore use of this TCO calculator by going to www.lift-truck-cost-tool.com.
The tool considers average recent costs for maintenance and batteries, as well as current standard costs for electricity and fuel, by state. Just three simple steps are required by the process to arrive at a cost comparison between truck technologies, and the overall savings to be realized with AC. To use the calculator, you simply gather and key-in information about the following:
- Your operation, including number of trucks in your fleet, effective number of hours they run per shift, number of shifts per day, and number of working days per year. For the last item, the tool offers a default figure of 250 hours.
- Purchase price, monthly maintenance cost, battery price and charger price for the Jungheinrich truck you’re interested in versus another technology you’re either looking at or already own. If you do not know these costs, the tool provides default values to complete the calculation.
- For DC trucks, the number of batteries necessary per truck, number of charges needed, charger prices, and battery price (default figure available). For IC trucks, the tool asks for fuel cost per bottle or tank, and hours of operation per bottle or tank.
Jungheinrich’s calculator will quickly demonstrate the marked cost advantage of owning and operating AC counterbalanced lift trucks. Note, however, that since fuel and electricity costs are subject to change at any time as economic conditions vary, the user is encouraged to verify local and current prices for a more accurate analysis.
In general, Jungheinrich’s proprietary AC electric technology offers a user many advantages, including a performance level equal to or better than an IC truck, the ability for use in both indoor and outdoor operation, enclosed motors and controllers for protection from particulate matter, energy reclamation during braking, the potential of up to two shifts work from a single battery charge, absence of toxic or dangerous emissions, and high reliability. Another potential advantage is the availability in certain states, (such as California and Texas) of incentive funds to encourage conversion to electric trucks.
The cost data analysis the website tool offers will prove to be invaluable in your comparative shopping program, and can help justify a purchase decision to management. Also available on the website cited above is an easy-to-read but comprehensive white paper that discusses the three leading forklift truck technologies and aspects of Total Cost of Ownership for each, including environmental issues. In addition, the site provides contact information for Jungheinrich dealers in your area.
To use the tool go to: www.lift-truck-cost-tool.com. For further information about the company’s vehicles, contact Jungheinrich Lift Truck Corp., 5601 Eastport Boulevard, Richmond, VA 23231. Call 804-737-7400. Fax: 804-737-7467. Or, visit the website at www.jungheinrich-us.com.

Power Shifter(TM) Rapid-Change Engine Mounting System Begins
Phase One Licensing To Manufacturers
Nascent Design Inc. opens Phase One licensing beginning October 1, 2007 for the Power Shifter™ rapid-change engine mounting system. This invention establishes a new approach to powering machines. The Power Shifter™ adapts a single engine for swapping between multiple machines in response to strong demand from the landscaping, rental and construction markets. Requiring no tools and taking less than 30 seconds, failed engines can be immediately replaced on site, yielding maximum reliability. Engines can be swapped between seasonal machines, even stored separately. Owning fewer engines reduces cost and maintenance for both commercial and residential markets.
The Power Shifter™ service stand provides free access to the entire engine at workbench height using the same rapid mounting system. Power Shifter™ can be used with any brand engine, and retrofit on certain existing machines—direct, belt or chain drive. Power Shifter™ is available for 3-10 HP horizontal shaft equipment including mixers, trowels, blowers, log splitters, generators, snow throwers, de-thatchers, aerators, chippers, sprayers, washers, compressors, pumps, edgers, tillers, etc. For the Power Shifter™ live video demo CD, contact sales@nascentdesigninc.com or go to www.powershifter.us.

Honeywell Introduces V-Basic Standard Switch
Honeywell today introduced its V-Basic Standard electromechanical switch (V15 series) to compliment the existing V-Basics Premium switch line that includes its popular V7 and V5 series switches. Available with a variety of actuators, electrical loads and special terminations, the Standard series is designed for “low cost of failure” operations, where the cost to replace a failed switch is minimal.
In situations where the cost of failure is low, such as joysticks for gaming systems or door interlocks, the V-Basics Standard switch offers enhanced reliability at a great value. Potential applications may include appliances, vending machines, gaming, industrial controls and HVAC.
The V-Basic Standard series enhances precision operation for applications requiring 100g or more of operating force and electrical ratings from 16A to 22A. The Standard series is designed to withstand 50,000 electrical operations at full load or 5 million mechanical cycles for the life of the switch. The switches’ design flexibility increases application compatibility. The V-Basic Standard series accept insulated connection and all popular quick connect receptacles.

Bigger Means Better for Bri-Mar HT824D Split Deck Tilt Trailer
Bri-Mar Trailers just super-sized the easiest way to move equipment. With a 20' tilt deck and 4' stationary front, the HT824D is now Bri-Mar's longest split deck, heavy-duty tilt trailer. With no ramps and enough room to store attachments, loading and unloading work or recreational vehicles is a snap.
The absence of ramps eliminates navigating up or down them, reducing the risk of equipment damage or personal injury. Space needed to unload is also minimized. A 4' stationary front deck
provides room for attachments or tools. This separate section gives the HT824D dual functionality as this cargo remains stable when the deck is raised or lowered. This is accomplished by a power up/power down hydraulic system with a 20' corded remote; a wireless remote is a desirable option.
The additional 4' length added to front of the 20' bed does not affect the incline angle of the deck - it remains at 13 degrees. With a deck height of 33", the deck-over design of the HT824D
gives it an overall width of 102" - twenty inches more than other tilt trailers with decks in between the fenders. This, plus a GVWR of 14,000 lbs., further expands its capacity. It is also
available in a gooseneck configuration to assign more load transfer to the towing vehicle. The HT824D can accommodate any equipment that can fit: backhoes, skid steers, mini-excavators,
trenchers, tractors or even classic cars. A full length rub rail with stake pockets helps secure the load.
Dexter EZ Lube axles, electric brakes, rubber mounted LED lights, and a 7-way RV plug are all standard features. A heavy-duty 8" thick main frame and 3" channel cross members support the
trailer's 2" thick, treated lumber deck. A selection of colors is offered: black, red, blue, green, gray or yellow. Like all Bri-Mar Trailers, they are built for years of service. A two-year warranty is standard.
Since 1995, Bri-Mar Manufacturing has been providing high quality products at an affordable price point. They continue to design value and durability into their diverse product lines: Hydraulic Dump Trailers, Equipment and Car Haulers, and Tilt Trailers. Bri-Mar is one of the leading manufacturers of hydraulic dump trailers in the country. For more information or to find a Bri-Mar dealer nearest you, please call 1-800-732-5845 or visit www.bri-mar.com.
