Stearns® Division Launches New High-Torque Brake for Enhanced Performance, Productivity
The Rexnord Industries, LLC Stearns® Division has launched a new high torque brake designed to easily fit into the drive system of any type of heavy industry equipment.
The Series 7EC Electric Caliper brake is spring-set/electrically-released, and is used for dynamic stopping, E-stop, and/or holding-only applications. The floating caliper design compliments a variety of tough industry equipment, including: material handling systems, commercial elevators, industrial lifts, wind turbines, hillside trams, and lock-gate hoists for hydro-electric dams.
“Stearns is the number one supplier of spring-set electrically-released motor brakes in North America," said Gary Zwick, Stearns Product Manager. “The new electric caliper brake will continue to bring our customers a top-of-the-line product with efficient technology that outlasts the competition, meaning lower maintenance costs and increased productivity."
Part of that efficiency is the brake's ability to easily adapt to drive systems. The disc can be mounted in several locations, including:
- Directly to a drive shaft (i.e. the disc can incorporate a hub, with a QD bushing)
- Bolted to a coupling hub
- Directly to large motors: motor manufacturers can fit the disc to an extended shaft on accessory end of motor
High capacities in torque (500-5,000 lb.-ft.) and speed (up to 10,000 surface feet per minute) are also part of the product's easy-to-use design. A high thermal capacity provides additional user versatility through the ability to incorporate gradual stops for high inertia loads.
The brake's electrical operation eliminates the need for hydraulic or pneumatic components or systems, bringing users a simple, clean and low-maintenance installation. An optional environmental/corrosion protection package, which meets IEEE 45 requirements for marine/maritime applications, is also available.

IP68-Rated Hall Sensors Detect Rotational Speed of Wheels in Heavy-Duty Gearboxes and Engines
Designed to detect both the rotational direction and rpm speed of gear wheels in gearboxes and engines at up to 20,000 pulses, the new Baumer MTRM 16 magnetic hall sensor is IP68-rated to operate reliably in harsh environments.
The compact sensor offers an operating voltage range from 8 to 28 VDC. With a maximum switching frequency of 20 kHz, the extremely robust sensor is built to withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C to +120°C. The sensor's IP67-rated M12 full-metal housing features a front face made of IP68 rated stainless steel, protecting the sensor's electronics from aggressive environments. The non-contact sensing principle minimizes abrasive wear and therefore maintenance effort. As a result, long-term, trouble free use is guaranteed.
The high speed MTRM 16 hall sensor is designed to meet stringent railroad standards, making it ideal for use on heavy vehicles, cranes, pumps/compressors, marine vessels, mining equipment, special machinery, wind turbines and other heavy-duty applications. The completely sealed and coated all-metal housing allows the sensor to be exposed continuously to environmental aggressors such as gear box lubrication oils.
The robust housing allows these sensors to be used in a diverse range of outdoor and indoor applications. MTRM 16 magnetic hall sensors can be used for motor current control, slip control, roll-back prevention, wheel slide prevention, optimized starting/braking, and speed control and evaluation.

Marsh Bellofram Precision Controls Division Introduces Type 78 High-flow Air Pressure Regulator for Industrial Applications

The Precision Controls Division (PCD) of Marsh Bellofram Corporation a member of the Marsh Bellofram Group of Companies, has announced the global market introduction of the Type 78, a direct-acting, high-performance air pressure regulator designed to offer high-accuracy, large flow and exhaust capabilities within OEM and industrial applications.
With available port sizes of ⅜, ½, ¾ and 1 NPT and BPST, with ¼ NPT gauges, the Marsh Bellofram Type 78 air pressure regulator is specifically designed for applications that require large flow capabilities and accurate pressure control. Available in five different pressure output ranges of up to 125 psig (8.6 BAR), this precision regulator offers low droop, high accuracy and fine adjustment sensitivity with maximum supply pressure rated at 400 psig (27.6 BAR) and achievable flow rates of well over 200 SCFM. Use of a patented Bellofram rolling diaphragm provides greater sensitivity and improved accuracy, along with low-friction operation and long useful service life. The Type 78 offers a balanced pintle, which minimizes output pressure changes caused by fluctuations in supply pressure. The unit can be either pipe or rail mounted.
Careful design and use of quality materials in manufacturing the Marsh Bellofram Type 78 air pressure regulator ensures long, trouble-free operation. In addition, the rugged die-cast zinc and aluminum housings of the Type 78 are pressure tested to assure safe operation and designed to withstand harsh and abusive environments. This durability is attributed to a chemical conversion coating of all cast components and a vinyl paint finish. Additional optional features and accessories for the Type 78 include low-bleed, non-relieving, square head adjustment, T-handle adjustment, tamper resistant cover, epoxy paint, tapped supply gauge port and tapped exhaust. Mounting brackets and repair kits are also available.
The new Marsh Bellofram Type 78 high-pressure air regulator is ideal for use across a variety of industrial applications, including high-flow actuation; high-flow louvers; slitters, rollers and dewinders; high-flow control loop applications; and calibration loops, among others.

JCB Launches New Generation Skid Steers and Track Loaders
JCB, one of the world's largest heavy equipment manufacturers, has launched an exciting new line of highly productive and reliable skid steer loaders and compact track loaders. These “New Generation" machines are the first to not only be manufactured but also designed and engineered at the company's North American headquarters in Savannah, Ga.
John Patterson Deputy Chairman of JCB said: "North America generates 60 percent of the worldwide demand for skid steers and compact track loaders, so developing and producing the new generation of machines in Savannah makes perfect sense and has enabled us not only to meet the unique needs of the North American market but also develop a machine range that will have universal appeal."
JCB has introduced a range of seven new skid steers—four wheeled and three tracked—in a range that will eventually grow to 18 models. All seven machines are vertical lift, which allows for increased capacity and more reach at maximum lift height. The models now available—the 260, 280, 300 and 330 wheeled skid steers and 260T, 300T, 320T compact track loaders—are large platform machines with rated operating capacities (ROC) of 2,600 lbs and above. With the introduction of the New Generation machines, JCB will be able to offer a complete range of wheeled and tracked machines, both radial and vertical lift, ranging from 1300lbs- 3500lbs.
The new generation machines benefit from a number of new features, including:
- A tilting cab with increased service access
- Multifunction joysticks
- A hydraulic quick hitch
- Isolated cab that is sealed and pressurized with reduced noise levels
- Heated air-suspension seat with adjustable armrests
- O-ring face seals for all hydraulic connections
- A new range of more than 30 types of JCB attachments.
By combining JCB's history of innovation with a number of additional enhancements, the New Generation machines offer an even wider range of benefits than the company's previous skid steer and compact track loader product line.
