IMI Sensors New Patented Bearing Fault Detector Senses Rolling Element Bearing Impacts
The IMI Sensors division of PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) has released the patented Model 682A05 Bearing Fault Detector (US Patent 6,889,553), an industry exclusive, which senses impacts within rolling element bearings caused by bearing faults. This type of detection provides early warning of typical bearing faults such as cracked races, spalling, brinelling, fatigue failure, looseness, and loss of lubrication. The Bearing Fault Detector uses a patented true peak picking mechanism that is ultra sensitive to impacts in bearings, and thus provides warning of problems in their earliest stages of development. This type of warning is not generally provided by traditional overall vibration level monitoring techniques.
The DIN rail mounted unit accepts an industry standard ICP® accelerometer input. It outputs a 4-20 mA signal that is proportional to the peak acceleration, and a second 4-20 mA signal proportional to overall velocity, and also provides the raw vibration signal for detailed diagnostic analysis. The device is also effective for monitoring other problems that produce similar impacts and vibrations data, such as a chipped tooth on a gear. This unit is also compatible with IMI Sensors Model 682A01, a 24-volt power supply, allowing use of line power and greater ease of setup. The Model 682A05 Bearing Fault Detector is also a stock product, available to customers for immediate delivery.

The New ProLineShovel
ProLine Equipment is pleased to introduce the next in a family of productivity-enhancing skid-steer attachments for nurserymen and landscapers. The new ProLineShovel enables the landscaper or small nurseryman to quickly, easily, and safely dig small numbers of trees to either ball & burlap them or transplant them directly to another location on site. The ProLineShovel is shaped like one-third of a standard, hydraulic tree spade, and allows the operator to make two or three thrusts around the base of the tree to extract a uniformly shaped rootball. The nose of the shovel is uniquely shaped to prevent it from slipping off and around tree roots as happens with shovels having a pointed nose. The ProLineShovel is available in both full and mini-skid sizes. For more information visit: prolinegrabber.com.

PCB Piezotronics Debuts ICP® Force Sensor Signal Conditioner for
Process Monitoring, Quality Assurance & Product Testing
PCB Piezotronics (PCB®) has announced the debut of Model 410B01 ICP® force sensor signal conditioner, designed for monitoring forces experienced during manufacturing, assembly, on-line processes, quality assurance, and end-of-the-line product testing.
Retrofitting older machines for effective in-process force measurements can present many challenges, including difficulties with proper force sensor integration and high production cycle rates. Sometimes existing sensing systems or PLC’s are simply unable to respond quickly enough for reliable, repeatable performance. Model 410B01 allows older PLC systems to stay in synch with high-speed production cycles, by actually capturing and holding the peak force reading until a PLC is able to scan for the value. In addition, an optically isolated relay resets the value, which ensures high reliability force measurement and faster machinery production cycles.
The system is comprised of a DIN rail mounted module, which can be installed and fully operational within minutes. Model 410B01 also offers high-resolution analog output (0 to 10 Volts), which can be directly correlated to units of force. Other features include auto-zero and remote reset to synchronize with machines cycles. When used in combination with Series M240 ICP® strain sensors, this simple force measurement system may be used in a wide range of process monitoring and control applications, including verifying stamping, crimping, press fit, riveting or other assembly force fabrication applications, such as material presence, misalignment, and end-of-line test, and anywhere zero-defect product manufacturing is an essential outcome.
Model 410B01 is a stock product, and available for immediate customer delivery. For additional information, contact PCB Piezotronics toll-free (in the US) at 1-888-684-0004 or +716-684-0001; E-mail: force@pcb.com, fax: +716-684-8877, or visit www.pcb.com.
Atlas Copco Construction Tools Introduces MB 1500
To Complete Medium-Duty Hydraulic Breaker Line
Designed with fewer moving parts for optimal reliability, the MB 1500 hydraulic breaker attachment from Atlas Copco Construction Tools LLC is ideal for demolition, road work, trenching and secondary rock breaking. The new unit joins four existing models to complete Atlas Copco’s medium-duty range of hydraulic breakers.
Featuring industry-leading technology, the MB 1500 offers exceptional breaking performance through the combination of high single blow energy and an impressive impact frequency of up to 640 blows per minute. Additionally, the new breaker was engineered with fewer components for reduced maintenance and longer service life.
At a service weight of 3,310 pounds, the MB 1500 is suitable for carriers in the 17 to 29 metric ton weight class. The breaker accepts hydraulic input flow of 32 to 41 gallons per minute at operating pressures of 2,320 to 2,610 psi.
The MB 1500 includes the AutoControl monitoring system, which allows the breaker to adapt its frequency and power output to match operating conditions. It begins by firing the first stroke at half power to create a pilot notch that helps to center the working tool and prevent unnecessary tool slippage. It then adjusts the power output to match the density of the specified material to be broken. This reduces excess shock on both the breaker and carrier and lengthens the service life of tension bolts and retainer bars.
To further maximize efficiency, the MB 1500 features the StartSelect system, which allows start-up and shut-off to be adjusted to fit jobsite conditions. In AutoStop mode, the breaker will not fire until the operator applies down pressure on the working tool. AutoStop eliminates blank firing by circulating the hydraulic oil internally under low pressure when down pressure is not applied to the tool. This feature is ideal for safely circulating and warming the hydraulic system before breaking in cold climates.
In AutoStart mode, the StartSelect system works hand-in-hand with AutoControl. The breaker begins operating as soon as the working tool comes in contact with the material regardless of down pressure, but power is limited to 50 percent until the working tool can be fully seated in the breaker. This properly positions the breaker to accept full single blow energy safely, without a damaging blank fire.
The VibroSilenced damping system and ContiLube II are additional standard features of the MB 1500. The VibroSilenced damping system helps to alleviate excess noise and vibration. ContiLube II is an automatic lubrication system mounted directly on the breaker. Featuring a compact, self-priming pump, ContiLube II eliminates the need to manually grease the breaker during each use, and lubricant levels can easily be observed and adjusted by the operator at all times.
The optional DustProtector II system reduces maintenance concerns by helping to prevent dust penetration. Utilizing a reusable sleeve that contacts the working tool at the base of the breaker, DustProtector II protects internal components from the damaging effects of dust.
The MB 1500 uses a working tool with a diameter of 5.3 inches. Tool options for the MB 1500 include the moil point for multi-purpose use, the flat chisel for rock breaking and demolition, and the blunt tool for recycling concrete, breaking rock, and reducing oversized material.
